Planning Permission Granted for Phase 2 Riverside Development of Haverhub Site

We are delighted to announce that, on 5th November, Pembrokeshire County Council’s Planning Committee unanimously approved our application to develop our Quayside Warehouse and make improvements to our Bar and Courtyard areas.

This means we can now expand our offering, giving you, our community, some more important spaces for your classes, meetings and socialising.

What’s happening:

As you can see in the plan above, we’ll be extending and refurbishing the bar and creating a new, additional art gallery space, with upstairs seating and an outdoor terrace on the first floor looking out over the river.

For professionals, there’ll be additional meeting rooms and desk spaces, and multi-use facilities that build upon our current WorkHub offering.

Creating a new entrance to the Depot (our primary event space) from the riverside, plus building in some new and improved facilities for performers such as a green room, we hope will attract more entertainment to our community and improve possibilities for all current space users.

We’ve worked hard to extend the improvements outside of the buildings themselves too, creating new public realm areas and making the quayside walkway better for pedestrians so that everyone can enjoy the river outside Haverhub, safely.

From the river, you’ll be able to walk all the way through our indoor spaces and come out on Quay Street, which will be especially useful on wet days!

The courtyard will remain similar, but with improvements such as doors out to the riverside and some permanently covered seating areas, as well as better access to the refurbished bar and gallery.

The concept designs from the architects are shown below.

At the Planning Committee meeting, Chair Cllr Simon Hancock described the plan as “marvellous,” and “a distinct improvement” to Haverfordwest, with Haverhub “doing the most remarkable job in trying to regenerate the town”. Cllr Mark Carter added that it is “a wonderful scheme, something the town is going to be proud of.”

Haverhub would like to thank Oochitecture, the architecture firm who have worked with us and with our community to create these designs. We’d also like to extend our thanks to everyone who shared thoughts and opinions during the development stage in April, when we shared the designs publicly to invite feedback.

Also thanks to PCC’s enhancing Pembrokeshire Grant, and other funders who have helped us reach our goal.

And finally, huge thanks to the extremely hardworking Haverhub team who’ve made everything happen so far, and will continue to do so when we enter this new phase of building. The team’s tireless efforts have, in a matter of a few years, turned a derelict site into a huge community asset for us all to enjoy.
