Long Roads Home – Installation and series of Art Events over 4 days

April 21 @ 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Long Roads Home is a collaboration between two West Wales artists Carrie MacKinnon and Lawrence Mathias.
The show will explore journeys, home and refuge as ideals and realities, building on the experience of both artists volunteering and working with displaced young people and their families. Video, paintings and installation will feature prominently, with written word and text playing an important role in delivering the message of the artwork. Carrie’s work draws partly upon her own experiences of working with displaced people across Europe, but mainly, upon the survivor stories of the refugees themselves. It often makes for uncomfortable viewing. More general and light hearted work is also featured, primarily in the animated video work of Lawrence and his satirical approach to subject matter. But at the heart of the show is the notion of togetherness and community – for all the triteness, the expression ‘all a part of the human family’ has never felt more real, the injustices and hardships visited on others in once remote parts of the world are now capable of being felt by us all. A large bell tent will be erected in the centre of the hall where young people and members of displaced families now living in Pembrokeshire will contribute artwork on the show’s central themes. A shared art experience, with a wide range of performers in other events throughout the weekend as well as art by young artists and contributors, will underpin the exhibition, which ultimately celebrates our shared humanity and desire for self expression.
A diverse schedule of music and performance is included in the event, with music, poetry and short talks on the Saturday night. The current programme is as follows:
Friday 19th April – opening night from 6:30 PM, featuring some live music and poetry from other participating artists in the event.
Saturday 20th April – open from 1pm with performance night from 6:45 PM. The following artists are so far confirmed for the evening:
Mark Perkins – Saxophonist
Ros Moore – Welsh traditional singer and songwriter
Nicky Lloyd and poets – award-winning Tenby based poet and writer joined at intervals through the evening by other local poets.
Chris Swales – singer and songwriter
Ten Minute Forum – volunteers and workers with displaced families and refugee groups talk about their work.
Mark Hutchins – a talk about journeys and travel from the teacher and writer who is writing a book about following the footsteps of Laurie Lee’s epic foot journey through 1930s Spain
The Florentines – 3 piece folk band from St Florence south of the county.
Sunday 21st April – open from 1pm until 5pm, with an open call for music and musicians from 2pm.
Monday 22nd April – a celebration of work done with local schools in the weeks preceding the show. The artwork will be done by local young people and young people and their families escaping from conflict and persecution in their own countries. The work will be on display in a large bell tent set up in the centre of the Depot. Music and other performances will be offered by groups associated with Learning Pembrokeshire, subject to availability closer to the time.

Mae Long Roads Home yn gydweithrediad rhwng y ddau artist o Orllewin Cymru Carrie MacKinnon a Lawrence Mathias. Bydd y sioe yn archwilio teithiau, cartref a lloches fel delfrydau a realiti, gan adeiladu ar brofiad artistiaid yn gwirfoddoli ac yn gweithio gyda phobl ifanc sydd wedi’u dadleoli a’u teuluoedd. Bydd fideo, paentiadau a gosodiadau yn cael lle amlwg, gyda geiriau a thestun ysgrifenedig yn chwarae rhan bwysig wrth gyflwyno neges y gwaith celf. Gwaith Carrie yn tynnu’n rhannol ar ei phrofiadau hi ei hun o weithio gyda phobl sydd wedi’u dadleoli ledled Ewrop, ond yn bennaf, ar straeon goroeswyr y ffoaduriaid eu hunain. Yn aml mae’n gwneud gwylio anghyfforddus. Rhoddir sylw hefyd i waith mwy cyffredinol ac ysgafn, yn bennaf yng ngwaith fideo animeiddiedig Lawrence a’i agwedd ddychanol at y pwnc. Ond wrth galon y sioe mae’r syniad o undod a chymuned – er y triteness, nid yw’r ymadrodd ‘pob rhan o’r teulu dynol’ erioed wedi teimlo’n fwy real, yr anghyfiawnderau a’r caledi yr ymwelwyd â hwy ar eraill mewn rhannau anghysbell o’r byd yn awr yn gallu cael eu teimlo gan bob un ohonom. Bydd pabell gloch fawr yn cael ei chodi yng nghanol y neuadd lle bydd pobl ifanc ac aelodau o deuluoedd sydd bellach yn byw yn Sir Benfro yn cyfrannu gwaith celf ar themâu canolog y sioe. Bydd profiad celf ar y cyd, gydag ystod eang o berfformwyr mewn digwyddiadau eraill trwy gydol y penwythnos yn ogystal â chelf gan artistiaid a chyfranwyr ifanc, yn sail i’r arddangosfa, sydd yn y pen draw yn dathlu ein dynoliaeth a’n hawydd cyffredin am hunan fynegiant.
Cynhwysir amserlen amrywiol o gerddoriaeth a pherfformiad yn y digwyddiad, gyda cherddoriaeth, barddoniaeth a sgyrsiau byr ar y nos Sadwrn. Mae’r rhaglen bresennol fel a ganlyn:

Dydd Gwener 19 Ebrill – noson agoriadol o 6:30 PM, yn cynnwys rhywfaint o gerddoriaeth fyw a barddoniaeth gan artistiaid eraill sy’n cymryd rhan yn y digwyddiad.
Dydd Sadwrn 20 Ebrill – ar agor o 1pm gyda noson perfformiad o 6:45pm. Mae’r artistiaid canlynol wedi’u cadarnhau ar gyfer y noson hyd yn hyn:
Mark Perkins – Sacsoffonydd
Ros Moore – cantores a chyfansoddwr caneuon traddodiadol Cymreig
Nicky Lloyd a beirdd – bardd a llenor arobryn o Ddinbych-y-pysgod yn ymuno o bryd i’w gilydd drwy’r nos gan feirdd lleol eraill.
Chris Swales – canwr a chyfansoddwr caneuon gyda naws Indie/Gwlad.
Fforwm Deg Munud – gwirfoddolwyr a gweithwyr gyda theuluoedd dadleoli a grwpiau ffoaduriaid yn siarad am eu gwaith.
Mark Hutchins – sgwrs am deithiau a theithio gan yr athro a’r awdur sy’n ysgrifennu llyfr am ddilyn ôl troed taith droed epig Laurie Lee trwy Sbaen yn y 1930au
The Florentines – band gwerin 3 darn o St Florence i’r de o’r sir.
Dydd Sul 21 Ebrill – ar agor o 1pm tan 5pm, gyda galwad agored am gerddoriaeth a cherddorion o 2pm.
Dydd Llun 22 Ebrill – dathliad o waith a wnaed gydag ysgolion lleol yn yr wythnosau cyn y sioe. Bydd y gwaith celf yn cael ei wneud gan bobl ifanc leol a phobl ifanc a’u teuluoedd sy’n dianc rhag gwrthdaro ac erledigaeth yn eu gwledydd eu hunain. Bydd y gwaith yn cael ei arddangos mewn pabell gloch fawr a osodwyd yng nghanol y neuadd. Bydd cerddoriaeth a pherfformiadau eraill yn cael eu cynnig gan grwpiau sy’n gysylltiedig â Sir Benfro yn Dysgu, yn amodol ar argaeledd yn nes at yr amser.
